We are going to UK in April/May. Betty for the first time and this is a really great page or two of information on getting around and seeing places on the cheap. We truly will make more than good use of all these pointers.
I'm recommending this to friends visiting this weekend. So much more interesting (thanks for the great commentary!) than red bus tours with their, usually, bored-sounding "guides".
My partner and I have just returned from a weekend in London. On Friday, armed with our £3.80 all day tickets and our itinerary we took the tour - we had an excellent day. It was great fun getting on and off the buses and walking about looking at the sights. I would recommend this tour to everyone - my daughter is going to do it and she lives in London!!!
Just came back from London, and did the bus tour as you described here....super! We had such a wonderful day! Tour is easy to follow, and is even more fun to take the public buses!
I am so glad I stumbled upon this web site, My girlfriend and I only have Nov 7th and 8th in London before heading to Paris, Lucerne, Florence and Rome.
Can we hop off/on at Harrold's using your bus tour route?
I will be staying one night in London on Friday 9 of October at Holiday Inn Heathrow. I would like to take a London bus tour. I will arrive about 3:00 pm, therefore having not much time this day. Would you kindly suggest some bus tour which will accommodate my need and when it starts and finish? Appreciate your help.
To do the cheap bus tour (which is self-guided) you will need to get into central London. I suggest you make your way to Westminster tube station and start with the number 12 bus up to Piccadilly. You can then join the main tour route from Piccadilly across to Kensington and so on (if you have time).
Make sure you buy a travel pass that includes unlimited bus trips for the day. To be honest, you won’t have a lot of time to do it if you don’t get to Heathrow until 3pm but you might be able to do part of the tour.
hi there, thinking about doing this tour next week it sound great, but was just wondering what you have to do with regard to the all day bus pass, where do you get it etc?
We used the your London Bus Tour this week (Aug 09). Really great! The mix of bus and walking was superb. Instructions were clear and accurate (although I think Tower Records is now Zavvi (Piccadilly)?) Fabulous!
What an interesting site - London Your Way ! for less than the cost of a coffee & cake - Cool .
Will be travelling to Dublin from OZ with a short stopover in London with my family of 5 next year - We will take this self guided tour for sure - We can't wait , and would be delighted to post feedback here on our sightseeing tour experience !
My family will be arriving in London for a one day tour at London St Pancras train station. Will we have enough time to stop and experience the following landmarks including Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, St . Paul`s, Tower of London, London Bridge, London Eye...
St Pancras is not really walking distance to any of those places. However, if you get the tube to Westminster, you could see Big Ben and walk from there over Westminster Bridge to ride on the London Eye, then walk along the river front to London Bridge (a nice area full of history and places of interest such as the Globe theatre).
If instead, you walk from Westminster throught St James park you could see Bickingham Palace, then walk along the Mall to see Trafalgar Square.
Getting to St Pauls could be done either by bus from Trafalgar Square or by walking across the Millenium Bridge from in front of the Tate Gallery, if you do the walk along the river front.
As for the Tower, its further along the river side and on the north / city side, so probably easiest to continue along the river front then cross Tower Bridge itself.
All in all, possibly do'able in a day but a very long day and quite a bit of walking!
absolutely. If you do the bus tour outside rush hour (ie. not between 7 and 9.30am and not between 5pm and 7pm) you should be pretty safe getting seats, too.
My family and I are going to Europe and we want to stay one day trip in London. I really like the idea bus tour but My father rides a wheelchair. Any way easy to get around the city for him? Please advise.
doubt.
we're traveling on easter time - 4 weeks time - and we're geting the oyster to move around.
Should we opt for the bus day travel card? since it is £3.80 - as mentioned above - or just credit the buses on the oyster which, as it reaches £7 something... it's day maximum...?

Thanks,
I would allow half a day to do the full tour, with stops along the way.
cheers sg
you can buy a one day bus pass from most newsagents and general stores. Might even be able to get it from train stations (not sure).

Also, is Buckingham Palace close to the route...
Thank you in advance.
