Are you thinking about inviting your significant other into your heart and home, but not sure how to do it? Don’t worry – you’re not alone! The proposal has become a big occasion in recent times, and popping the question should be a really memorable moment for you and your partner.

While there are plenty of expensive ways to put a ring on it, particularly in London, you can still do an original, beautiful and memorable proposal without having to dip your hand in your pocket… except to retrieve a ring.

Primrose Hill

With perhaps the finest views over our nation’s capital, what better spot to pick for a summer or winter proposal? The summit stands at 63 metres above sea level, and this historic park is a favoured picnic spot in the summer months.

A large oak called Shakespeare’s Tree stands on the slope of the hill, and reaching the top grants you views across the city. After a (hopefully) successful proposal, you can stroll down to the high street or even head to the nearby London Zoo.

Tower Bridge

If you don’t mind a crowd, or the grisly head-on-spike history, Tower Bridge is a historic and iconic landmark to get down on one knee. Now featuring a new glass floor and high-level walkways, Tower Bridge has all the ingredients for a memorable proposal spot.

With plenty of sights to take in around Tower Bridge, this is a great choice for those visiting London, as you’ll have plenty to do before and after the big question.

Love Lane

If you’re looking for the ultimate Instagram proposal spot, then why not visit Love Lane? Taking its name from the illicit activities that used to take place in the Middle Ages, posing in front of the Love Lane street sign is a fun and romantic idea.

There is plenty to do in this historic area of London, including taking a walk around the nearby gardens, or visiting the Leonard Street Gallery, Barbican Art Gallery and Museum of London.

Holland Park

Slightly off the beaten track, Holland Park is one of London’s most beautiful green spaces, surrounding a Jacobean mansion. The Japanese-styled Kyoto Gardens are the jewel in the crown of Holland Park, with its koi carp and meandering peacocks.

For the optimum proposal spot, stroll over to the bridge at the foot of the waterfall, before enjoying a walk around the rest of the park.

The Whispering Gallery, St. Paul’s Cathedral

Climb 259 steps up to the dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral and you’ll find The Whispering Gallery. What’s so special about this particular spot of an already grandiose building?

Due to a strange quirk of construction, whispering against its walls is audible all the way over the other side of the gallery. Send your partner across the dome and whisper your proposal from afar. Bonus points if you pretend a ghost did it.

London is a vast and wondrous city, and these are just a few romantic spots where you can pop the question without spending a penny. Good luck!
