With winter well and truly here, it becomes increasingly difficult to find a reason to leave the house. When the weekend rolls around, it’s far more tempting to stick on our dressing gowns and watch a film than it is to head out.

However, as the adage goes, there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes! To help you out of hibernation in the coming months, we’ve put together a selection of ideas for things to do on a cold winter’s day in the capital city.

Soak up the culture

London is home to some of the most famous museums in the world. From the Natural History Museum to the British Museum, there are plenty of indoor spaces worth visiting, where you can see many interesting artefacts.

If you’ve already hit up all the big cultural hotspots, we recommend heading over to one of the smaller museums, such as Sir John Soane’s museum. This museum was home to one of the greatest English architects, Sir John Soane. Kept the same since he dies in 1837, it’s like walking into a time capsule.

Discover some art

Like museums, London is also home to plenty of famous art galleries, such as the Tate Modern and the Tate Britain. Head over to the former, and you’ll discover artworks that cover over 100 years, from the times of early modernism, through to today. The gallery is free to visit, although donating is suggested. There are also paid exhibitions that are often well worth checking out.

Grab a bite to eat

As a multicultural city, London is home to a vast range of restaurants that serve delicious and diverse meals. If you’re a curry fan, then check out Brick Lane, where you’ll find multiple curry houses, all serving a great selection of tasty dishes.

Alternatively, check out one of London’s many indoor markets. Spitalfields market and Borough Market are both home to an excellent selection of street food stands covering cuisines from many different countries. If you’re visiting with a group of friends, choose a selection of dishes from different stalls, and get stuck in.

Try your luck at a casino

As evening comes around, there’s no doubt you’ll be looking for an entertaining way to spend your evening. If bowling or the cinema aren’t calling to you, why not check out one of the city’s many casinos? London is home to many great casinos, where guests can enjoy games ranging from poker or baccarat to slot machines.

If you’re fed up with bracing against the cold, fret not. The prevalence of online casinos means it’s just as easy to enjoy your favourite casino games from the comfort of your warm home. Before getting started, take a look at a comparison site to compare reviews and ratings of the top casino platforms. Here’s a great guide with excellent tips, including a rundown of the types of bonuses, offered and the catalogue of games on offer.

Although prone to rainy days, London in the winter certainly has its charm. Just remember to wrap up warm, and you’re bound to enjoy a day out in the capital.
